In the last four or five years plein-air groups have formed all over the country. El Paso may have one of the earliest groups. "The Plein-air Painters of El Paso" was founded in 1997 by several of El Paso`s well know artist. Since then the group has tripled in sized and has painted plein-air through out the El Paso area and the Southwest, including Mexico. Artist in this Group have won many awards in Plein-Air exhibits. The Plien-Air Painters of El Paso Plein-Air exhibit "Along the Rio Grande" went on the road in July of 2004 to be exhibited at the Department of Interior Museum in Washington, DC.
